dryer ball essential oilsEver since I started using wool dryer balls in my laundry, I’ve been telling everyone I know about them.

Dryer balls reduce the amount of time spent on drying clothes. They make your home more efficient. And adding a few essential oils to dryer balls can improve the fragrance on your fabrics.

In this article, we will be talking about dryer balls made from wool, even though there are also alternatives produced from fabric, rubber, or plastic materials ¹, but these are less desirable.

Wool dryer balls are made of organic substances, for example, from sheared sheep hair. Others include mohair and cashmere hair from goats.

These laundry balls are suitable to be used with essential oils. Compared to traditional synthetic fabric softener sheets, they are a more natural choice to scent your laundry.

Put three drops of essential oils onto each dryer ball and allow them to dry for a quick minute. You can choose different scents per ball and combine them all in the machine – or just stick with one scent on all of the balls. Then, add them to a load of wet clothes in your dryer. Do not overload the dryer. This will enhance the circulation of warm air as the clothes tumble in the machine. Wait for the clothes to dry before removing them from the machine.

You can use these cotton balls and dryer balls as many times as possible. After each use, store away in a plastic bag or paper bag for future purposes.

Some people are afraid that laundry dryer balls may cause a fire in the laundry machine, but this isn’t so. Especially if you ensure you’re using dryer balls made from only organic materials (such as wool or cotton).

Use dryer balls with small loads of wet clothes to ensure they dry faster.

Drying clothes for a longer time leaves static on them. If you want to prevent static cling, ensure you don’t dry them for too long.

Happy laundry day!

I have read, time & time again, if I use essential oils on my woolen dryer balls it creates a hazard because the oils are flammable.

We have found that adding the oil only in the last 10-15 minutes of drying allows the use of less and leaves behind a stronger scent.
