Why Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a holistic medicinal approach used to take care of a variety of emotional and physical conditions¹. It is not intended to replace a professional medical treatment on its own. Rather, it is a great complimentary practice to conventional medicine that one can learn to do at home.

There are multiple ways to enjoy essential oils. Making your own bath salts is a terrific method to delight in aromatherapy at home. Not only does the spa-like atmosphere aid your overall relaxation, these DIY bath salts are also quite inexpensive to make.

You may also like to consider a homemade muscle rub recipe as part of your muscle-soothing self care.

This particular DIY muscle-soothing essential oils bath has the power to assist muscle and joint pain, in addition to providing relief from daily stress and tiredness.

Bath salts are typically crystalline in composition and a small scoop can go a very long way. They also provide your skin with a certain level of nourishment.

If you’re not acquainted with aromatic bath salts, it’s a product which you most definitely must try to fully appreciate it! Luckily, it’s really quick and easy, and you only need a few simple ingredients!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup Pure Epsom Salts
  • 15 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
  • 5 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
  • (optional) ¼ cup Jojoba Carrier Oil (get it here)
  • Small mason jar

* Enough for 4-5 baths.

Directions

Start by adding 1 cup of Epsom salts into your mason jar. Add 15 drops of Eucalyptus and 5 drops of Peppermint. Eucalyptus is a powerful anti-inflammatory oil, and Peppermint aids in muscle relaxation and pain relief.

Epsom salt contains a substantial amount of magnesium and sulfates, which gives it its many therapeutic advantages ². Magnesium stabilizes all bodily functions, and sulfate protects joint proteins and brain tissues ³.

Optional: add ¼ cup of Jojoba essential oil to help soothe and moisturize your skin during the bath.

Combine everything well. Fill your bath with warm water and add about ¼ cup of your bath salts.

Note: Do not add essential oils directly to bath water. You need a diluting agent to properly disperse the essential oils throughout your bath water. If you have sensitive skin or previously known conditions, start by using a small amount of the mixture and gradually adjust as you’re comfortable with more.

Bath Salt Recipe Variations

If you’re ready to vary the essential oils used in this bath salts recipe, please feel free! Here are ideas on more essential oils to use for sore muscles.

If you like to have a bath at night, you could try a combination of essential oils that aid sleep and insomnia.

If you like to have bath time with a toddler or child, use these kid-safe essential oil sets. You can really use any essential oils in this bath, so long as you respect any of your current medical conditions and know the details of the oil you’re trying to use.

If you’re unsure, my recommendation is to contact a Certified Aromatherapist in your area for individual assistance and consulting.

Other Benefits of Using a Bath to Relax

Applying your essential oils knowledge in a bath is a great way to relax at home, as a bath is a time for self-care and a time-out from running around.
