Why Use a Facial Oil?

Natural facial oils are a combination of beautifully selected carrier oils that support your skin in a variety of ways.

In addition, most face oils also include Vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant ingredient.

Face oil benefits include:

  1. Nourishment: Facial oils can help nourish your skin with vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids. This can improve the overall health and appearance of your skin, leaving it looking smoother, softer, and more radiant.
  2. Hydration: Facial oils can help to hydrate your skin by locking in moisture and preventing water loss. This is particularly beneficial for dry, sensitive or dehydrated skin types, which may struggle to retain moisture on their own.
  3. Protection: Some facial oils contain antioxidants that can help to protect your skin from environmental stressors, such as pollution and UV radiation. This can help to prevent premature aging and other forms of skin damage.
  4. Anti-aging effects: Facial oils can also help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen production and strengthening skin elasticity. This can help give you a more youthful, firm look.

How to Use Your Facial Oil

Before you decide to order a face oil, let me show you what to expect.

Here are my best tips on how to apply facial oil to get the most out of it:

  1. Cleanse your face: Start by washing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup.
  2. Apply a toner (optional): If you use a toner in your skincare routine, apply it after cleansing your face.
  3. Apply a serum (optional): Serums are lightweight and can penetrate deeper into the skin, so they should go on before the oil.
  4. Apply the oil: Take a few drops of facial oil and warm it up in your palms. Gently press the oil onto your face and neck, focusing on any dry or dehydrated areas. The exact amount of facial oil you use will depend on your skin type. If you have oily skin, you will only need a couple of drops. If you have dry or damaged skin, you may need to use more oil to hydrate your skin.
  5. Pat instead of rub: Be gentle when applying your face oil. Instead of rubbing the oil into your skin in circular motions, gently pat it in with your fingertips. This will help the oil absorb more effectively. It also prevents any unnecessary tugging or pulling of the skin.
  6. Mix with your moisturizer: If you find that facial oil is too heavy for your skin, mix a few drops of oil into your regular moisturizer. This creates a lighter, more hydrating formula and still lets you enjoy the benefits of a natural face oil.
  7. Allow the oil to absorb: Give the facial oil a few minutes to absorb before applying any additional products, such as moisturizer or sunscreen.
  8. Use as a spot treatment: If you have dry patches or areas of your face that need extra hydration, use facial oil as a spot treatment. Simply apply a small amount of oil to the affected area and gently pat it in. This can help to provide targeted hydration and prevent any unnecessary oiliness on other parts of your face.

Does Face Oil Go Before Or After Moisturizer?

The general rule is to apply your products in order from lightest to heaviest consistency. This helps them to absorb into your skin properly.

If your facial oil is lighter in consistency than your moisturizer, you can apply it before your moisturizer. On the other hand, if your facial oil is heavier than your moisturizer, it’s best to apply it after your moisturizer.

If you’re using a facial oil and a moisturizer with similar consistencies, you can mix them together and apply them as a single product. This can help to create a lighter, more easily absorbed formula that still provides hydration and nourishment to your skin.

Can I Use Facial Oil With Makeup?

To enjoy the benefits of facial oil and yet not have your makeup run, give the facial oil a few minutes to absorb into your skin before applying your makeup. This will ensure that your makeup adheres properly and doesn’t slide off.

Once the facial oil has absorbed, simply apply your makeup as usual. The facial oil should help to create a smooth, even base for your foundation, concealer, and other makeup products.

Should I Apply Face Oil in the Morning or Evening?

Facial oils are typically used in the evening, as they can be too heavy for daytime use. If you want to use a facial oil during the day, make sure to choose one that is lightweight and non-greasy.

Final Thoughts

Facial oils are a popular addition to skincare routines as they can help to nourish, hydrate, and protect the skin.
