Quick Company Information
Amrita Aromatherapy was founded in 1989 by Dr. Christoph Streicher. This means, the company just celebrated its 30 year anniversary in 2019.
Dr. Streicher has a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Würzburg, and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Maharishi International University, in which he focused on the relationship of plant life to human consciousness. In the early 1980s, he studied with a number of well-known Indian Ayurvedic physicians. It was during this time that he learned about the holistic healing powers of aromatherapy for human physiology.
This unique combination of studies and experiences enables Dr. Streicher to critically evaluate the biochemistry of the oils, and select essential oils that are the most suitable for today’s aromatherapy applications.
I envision Amrita to be a trustworthy source of nature’s pure aromatherapy essential oils. ~ Dr. Christoph Streicher
Ayurvedic Influence – the Holistic Principle
Let me say that I am not at all an expert on Ayurveda. However, in my journey with aromatherapy and essential oils, I’ve definitely found there to be a holistic component to using and taking benefit from applying essential oils.
All ancient healing systems that have been developed in recent centuries, such as homeopathy, naturopathy and aromatherapy, are based on holistic principles. Holistic principles at the core, teach us that the sum is greater than its parts. One cannot achieve the same results using single pieces of the puzzle individually – rather, we have to put it together.
In aromatherapy, this means that before choosing an essential oil for a certain ailment, we have to take into account the full condition of the ailing human body. Emotional, physical, mental and spiritual nuances need to be thought of – and can be treated – with appropriate selection of high quality essential oils.
Product Quality Assurance & Control
Amrita Aromatherapy carries over 150 single essential oils, and chooses essential oils from wild-crafted or organically farmed plants whenever possible. They do a great deal of testing and quality control to ensure botanical purity. This means, they test to ensure that the essential oil is actually derived from the botanical plant indicated.
Testing & Quality
Amrita is the only essential oil company I know of that owns an in-house gas chromatography machine. Every batch of essential oils purchased from a distiller is tested with this in-house apparatus. You can read more about the Amrita in-house lab here if you wish.
“Sending each batch of oil to a 3rd party lab would be cost-prohibitive” explains Dr. Streicher.
Testing the essential oils not only ensures 100% botanical quality, it also allows the analysis of the oils’ chemical profile to ensure its therapeutic usefulness.

The Amrita Product Line-Up
At Amrita Aromatherapy, you can buy just about any essential oil you can name. With a line-up of over 150 oils, Amrita is an essential oil lover’s dream! You don’t need to be an aromatherapist to appreciate the selection.
If you need an introduction to essential oils and the experience of aromatherapy, you can get 10 x 1 ml vials of the most popular and widely used essential oils for around $35 here. The sampler kit allows you to test the oils and see if you like the experience with essential oils at home.
It is a great option for a starter kit and lets you try a variety of oils, without potentially wasting money on purchasing a set of larger oils that you may end up not using.
USDA Certified Organic Oils
Amrita Aromatherapy currently carries 102 USDA Certified Organic essential oils. This is the largest selection of certified organic oils available in the USA.
To find these oils, simply use the “Shop By” filter on their web page listing all essential oils. Navigate Essential Oils > Single Notes, then scroll down to find the filter in the left-hand sidebar.
Amrita calls their single essential oils “single notes”. In aromatherapy, essential oils have either top, base, or middle notes. So “notes” is a term in aromatherapy.
Amrita offers 29 unique and proprietary synergy blends, blended by a master aromatherapist with 26 years of experience.
It is known in aromatherapy that the blending of essential oils creates a synergistic effect – which means the sum is larger than its parts. Essential oil blends (or synergies) are more powerful than effects of a single oil alone.
Amrita’s essential oil blends combine the harmony of scent with therapeutic effectiveness. You can find a blend for a wide range of physical, emotional or mental ailments.
Buying Amrita’s essential oil blends directly on their website will be slightly cheaper than shopping for them on Amazon. This makes sense as Amazon adds their own warehousing fees to any seller that wishes to use their marketplace. Still, sometimes it’s easy to add a small item to your Amazon shopping cart and enjoy free shipping, instead of putting in a full $50+ order on amrita.net to qualify for free shipping after $50.
Tri-Essence Power Blends
Amrita’s Tri-Essence Power Blends deserve special note in this review as they are also a very unique product of this oil brand.
Tri-Essence blends contain essential oils, herbal extracts, and flower essences. These three components work together to deliver a balanced botanical product for healthful aromatherapy treatments at home.
They can also be taken internally as directed by your qualified practitioner. The essential oils in the Tri-Essence blends are diluted in the herbal extracts to a concentration where ingestion is safe.
The following video, authored by Amrita Aromatherapy, explains the Tri-Essence concept in more detail. (Be patient with it; it’s an old video but the information is good!)
Skin Care & Body Products
Huge expertise and interest in Amrita’s product line-up goes towards skin care and beauty products. You’ll find facial cremes, face masks, facial serums and toners for sale on amrita.net. The line-up also includes deodorants, hydrosols, and body oils of all kinds.
This is a beautiful part of their online shop if you wish to switch to natural skin care but DIY recipes seem overwhelming or you’re not sure where to start. Try their Balance Facial Toner or the Hydrating Facial Mask for dry/mature skin.
Diffusers, Accessories and Supplies
While Amrita does carry a few nebulizing diffusers, personal inhalers and starter kits, it is clear that essential oil accessories is not their main focus.
Every other part of their line-up is impressively built out – except this one.
That’s not a deal-breaker at all, though, unless you’re a complete novice and are looking for a simple, easy, everything-included starter kit. In that case, please look to brands such as Plant Therapy, Edens Garden, or Rocky Mountain Oils, and get a set of essential oils including a diffuser.
If you wish to shop with an expert on aromatherapy, and get best quality essential oils and essential oil products, you’ll still be extremely happy if you shop with Amrita, even though you may have to piece together your order a little bit more.
- All purchases come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Within 30 days of the ship date, you may return products for a refund or credit – opened or unopened. You will need to request a RA# (Return Authorization) number from their office first.
- Free shipping on orders over $50 (for retail customers only)
- Toll-free number: 1-800-410-9651, Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm CDT.

- The online store is powerful, but at times slightly cumbersome to navigate. There are SO many products offered, and the drop-downs menus are elaborate. That said, I do appreciate their “Browse by Condition” section, where you can find a simple list of product recommendations based on condition. Look for “BROWSE BY CONDITIONS” in the main menu navigation bar.
I’ve been extremely pleased with the Amrita Aromatherapy products I’ve tested. The scents are strong, the products carefully crafted and presented with informative labels and solid information.
However, it is lacking a super-easy starter kit (possibly even one with a diffuser), and therefore it may not be the easiest brand to start with.
It is a fantastic choice for an intermediate-level essential oil lover who knows what they’re looking for, cares to shop only organic, or wants to try something a bit more out of the ordinary. The product line-up is comprehensive, high-quality, and offers lots of choice.
While the website navigation can feel quite overwhelming with so many menu options available, it is a fully stocked online store and an aromatherapist’s paradise.
Amrita may also be a great choice of essential oil brand for you if you’re looking for more natural skin care and beauty products. The line-up in that area again is extensive, beautiful, great quality and luxurious – while still affordable.
I hope my company review helped you learn more about Amrita Aromatherapy.
